Animal Adoption Fair
Where: Broadway Mall, Rte 106/107 in Hicksville
What: Meet Little Shelter
When: Saturday, April 2 from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Sunday, April 3 from 11 a.m.– 5 p.m.
Why go: Visit the store located between Macy's and Target, spend time smooching with dogs, cats, puppies and kittens that are looking for homes, and speak to staff and volunteers about volunteer opportunities and find out how you can support them
Remembering the Civil War
Where: Old Bethpage Village Restoration on Round Swamp Road in Old Bethpage (exit 48 on the LIE);516-572-8400
What: Opening weekend
When: Saturday, April 2 and Sunday, April 3 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Why go: A special day commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Civil War. Members of the 14th Brooklyn Regiment of the NYS Militia will conduct a program including demonstrations, drills, etc.
Cost: $7 for children 5 - 12 (those under 5 are free), $7 for seniors and volunteer firefighters; and $10 for adults

Strikes for Schools

What: Fundraiser for the West Hempstead Elementary Schools
When: Sunday, April 3 from 4-7 p.m.
Why go: This special event includes the shoe rental and unlimited games. Bowling is always a fun time and this benefits a good cause too. Double win!

Fun Fitness Class for Kids

Travel Back in Time

What:”History Alive”
When: Sunday, April 3 from noon – 4 p.m.
Why go: Take your kids on an “unplugged” adventure! Replace their video games and cell phones with chores particular to 19th century life. The experiences they’ll have will stay with them like churning butter or carding wool. Other aspects of 19th century children’s lives will be on display like play and education.
