Why go: This first time event, sponsored by The American Cancer Society and the Malverne Wildcats is going all out to honor and support all those touched by cancer while raising funds to find a cure.

Youth Lax Day

Where:  

What: Lacrosse games and kids activities.

When: Saturday, May 21, 9a.m. - 5 p.m.

Why go: Enjoy a day outside packed with exciting youth lacrosse matches and family-friendly activities including a dunk tank, inflatable obstacle course and tasty food. For more information click here.

Where: Kennedy Plaza, 1 W. Chester St. Long Beach

What: Greenfest 2011

When:  Saturday, May 21, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Why go:  The City of Long Beach will be holding "Greenfest 2011.” There will be eco-friendly product displays, vendors and more. Additionally, this event will feature the farmers market, Art in the Plaza and Empower Solar. The keynote speaker will be Legislator Denise Ford and live entertainment will be provided by DJ Freddie Maloney.

Book Signing

What: Book signing by author Douglas J. Gladstone

When: Sunday, May 22, noon

Why go: Douglas J. Gladstone, author of the controversial book, A Bitter Cup of Coffee; How MLB and The Players Association Threw 874 Retirees a Curve will appear at the Blue Door Books on Central Avenue for a special author signing event. Copies of the book will be available for purchase on the day of the signing.

Yogi Movie 

Where: Island Park Library, 176 Long Beach Rd.

What: Movie:  “Yogi Bear – Life’s a Pic-A-Nic”

When:  Saturday, May 21, 2 p.m.

Why go: Starring: Dan Aykroyd, Justin Timberlake, Anna Faris, Tom Cavanaugh. Everyone's favorite pic-a-nic basket-stealing bear brings his meal-mooching ways to this live-action/CG-animated adventure. Jellystone has been losing business, so conniving Mayor Brown has decided to shut it down and sell the land. Faced with the loss of his home, Yogi must prove he really is 'smarter than the average bear' as he and Boo Boo join forces with Ranger Smith to find a way to save the park from closing forever. RATED PG

Creative Fair 

Where: Eisenhower Park Kite Field, Hempstead Trpk. and Stewart Ave. in East Meadow

What: Fine Art Festival

When: Saturday, May 21 and Sunday, May 22, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Why go: This, festival will showcase original creations of over 100 fine art and craft artisans including sculptures, paintings, photography, jewelry and more. Includes family art activities provided by the Long Island Children's Museum

 Family 5K

Where: Floral Park Centennial Gardens, 251 Floral Pkwy

What: Hance Family Foundation 5k run/walk (http://blog.hancefamilyfoundation.com/events)

When: Saturday, May 21 registration from 7:30 a.m. – 9 a.m.

Why go: This wonderful foundation, created in the memory of three sisters from Floral Park is holding its yearly fundraiser, providing a fun-filled day for those participating while the proceeds go to fund their many contributions to the community. From their website: “The funds raised for this Foundation will be used to support children’s endeavors, with an initial emphasis on serving the children of the Village of Floral Park. The intention of the Foundation is to honor the memories of these extraordinary girls by helping as many children as possible, in as many ways as possible.”

Times:  PeeWee Run for children 7 and younger starts at 9 a.m., Emma's Mile starts at 9:15 a.m.,

5k run/walk starts at 9:45 a.m., registration from 7:30-9:00 a.m.

Cost: $8 for PeeWee Run, $15 for one mile, $25 for 5K
