Get Out: Your Local Guide to the Weekend, Oct. 1 - 2

Take part in one of these fun local events this weekend.

Celebrate the arrival of autumn this weekend by enjoying one of the many festivals and fairs taking place all over our area.  There’s also an Irish celebration.  And for something completely different, we’ve included a performance of Hamlet.  Let’s hope the weather cooperates and we can take advantage of this harvest time.

OLL Bazaar

Where: Our Lady of Lourdes Church of Malverne, 65 Wright Ave. Malverne

When: Friday, Sept. 30, 6-10 p.m.; Saturday, Oct. 1, 4-10 p.m.; Sunday, Oct. 2, 1-7 p.m.

Why Go: Our Lady of Lourdes is sponsoring a festival involving rides, games, food and entertainment for all.

Street Fair

Where: Nassau Boulevard starting at Hempstead Avenue in West Hempstead

When: Sunday, Oct. 2, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

Why go: The annual street fair in West Hempstead is a community tradition! This fair offers arts and crafts, antiques, and food for sale among other merchandise. There is entertainment for the whole family too.

Irish Day

Where: W Park Avenue and Washington Boulevad, Long Beach, NY

When: Saturday, Oct. 1, 9 a.m.

Why go: The 22nd annual Irish Day parade and festival in the West End of Long Beach is taking place this weekend. This is a day for celebrating everything Irish. The day will begin with mass at 9 a.m. at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Island Park, followed by a traditional Irish breakfast at the VFW post on West Park Avenue at 10 a.m. The parade will start at 12 p.m., which will begin at West Park Avenue and Washington Boulevard and continue down West Beech Street in the West End. After the parade there will be Irish concessions, food, games, rides and more along West Beech Street. Local bars will also host live bands.

Cost: free

 Apple Festival

Where: Queens County Farm Museum, 73-50 Little Neck Pkwy. Floral Park

When: Sunday, Oct. 2, 11 a.m.-4 p.m.

Why go: Welcome autumn in with one of its ambassadors, the apple. There will be a variety of apples available for purchase, along with pressed cider, apple pie and donuts at this year's Apple Festival, hosted by the Farm Museum. There will be children's activities and a hayride in the afternoon and a corn maze, which begins with a stalk talk to prepare attendees for the challenge ahead.

Cost: Free for the festival. For the corn maze: $9 per person, $5 for children ages 4-11, ages 3 and under are free

Harvest Foods, Antiques and More

Where: First United Methodist Church, Atlantic Avenue and Davison Street, Oceanside

When: Saturday, Oct. 1, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

Why go: This fall harvest fair features Long Island vegetables, fall flowers, wreaths, crafts, pumpkins, baked goods, handmade items, Granny's Attic Antiques and collectibles and barbecue luncheon

Cost: free

Fall Festival

Where: St. John's Lutheran Church, 13 Blake Ave. Lynbrook

When: Sunday, Oct. 2, 11 a.m.-3 p.m.

Why go: This community festival offers baked goods, raffles, pumpkins, apples, pony rides, entertainment and more.

Cost: free

Hamlet

Where: Adelphi University Performing Arts Center, 1 South Ave. Garden City

When: Friday, Sept. 30, 7:30 p.m. ; Saturday, Oct. 1, 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. ; Sun. Oct. 2, 2 p.m.

Why go: A rarely performed First Quarto version of Shakespeare's famous tale of murder, revenge and youthful passions, Hamlet.

Cost: $15, $12 seniors, $7 students
