The best events happening around the neighborhood this weekend.
Althought there are scattered thunderstorms in this weekend's weather forecast, we're hoping the weather will cooperate so you can enjoy some of the fun outdoor events we found happening around the neighborhood.
Check out the activities below. This weekend there will also be various ceremonies, a blood drive and other tributes to the lives lost on 9/11. to learn more.
Become a Surfer Girl

When: Saturday, Sept. 10, 3 sessions; 10 a.m., noon, and 2 p.m.

Why go: Interested in learning to surf? Roxy team surfers Rosy Hodges, Sally Fitzgibbons, Lisa Anderson, Bruna Schmitz, Kassia Meador and Monyca Bryne-Wickey will be on hand to give some lessons. This event is limited to 35 girls of all ages per session.

Volleyball Tourney
Where: 250 Grand Blvd. at the boardwalk, Long Beach
When: Saturday, Sept. 10 at 9 a.m.
Why go: The largest single event volleyball tournament on the east coast! The 15th Annual Volleyball charity event tournament benefits children with cancer and special needs. You can participate in the games or just enjoy the entertainment, music, food, raffles, kids' tent and merchandise.
Cost: $65 to enter the tournament

Medieval Festival
Where: 127 Middle Neck Rd., Port Washington
When: Saturday and Sunday, September 10 and 11, 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Why go: Enjoy everything medieval at this one-of-a-kind festival. Just some things you’ll experience are a colorful procession of the royal court, knights jousting on horseback, exhibitions of archery skill by medieval bowmen and you can try your hand at this ancient sport as well. There will be period entertainment, including music, dancing, and a fashion show featuring the ornate costumes of lords and ladies, craftspeople demonstrating a variety of fine skills, food and unique craft vendors, games for children and adults, a pony ride and the opportunity for children to “fight-a-knight.”

Learn a New Game
Where: South Shore Sports Complex, 3505 Hampton Rd., Oceanside
When: Sunday, Sept. 11 from 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.
Why go: Zoneball is a fun, easy-to-learn game that the whole family can enjoy while also getting a great cardio workout. Learn this new sport during an open scrimmage, part of the "Decade of Remembrance" event at the South Shore Sports Complex.
Cost: $10 for admission, which includes other games and activities

Community Party
Where: Village Green on Maple Avenue and Lee Avenue, Rockville Centre
When: Saturday, Sept. 10, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Why go: This is a free ‘Community Party’ where everyone's welcomed and everything's free! There will be Hot dogs, cotton candy, popcorn, soda, face-painting, a bounce house, DJ, children's activities, games and races for adults and children. You'll also have a chance to win prizes in the free raffle including the grand prize, an iPad 2. This event is sponsored by the Vineyard Church.

Nature Hike
Where: Theodore Roosevelt Nature Center at Jones Beach State Park, Wantagh
When: Saturday, Sept. 9 at 10:30 a.m.
Why go: Enjoy the beginning of autumn and take advantage of this nature hike. This hike takes you down to the water to explore the different animals that call the bay home.

Cost: $4 per person, under 3 free
Historic Fair
Where: Sands-Willets House, 336 Port Washington Blvd., Port Washington
When: Saturday, Sept. 10, 10 a.m.-7 p.m.
Why go: An old fashioned fair feature a petting zoo, old-time games, pony rides, live music, historic house tours, baked goods and more.
Farmers Market
Where: Long Beach City Hall, 1 West Chester St.
When: Saturday, Sept. 10, from 11 a.m – 2 p.m.
Why go: You can find just about anything at the Kennedy Plaza Farmers Market. They will be offering everything from fresh fruit and veggie, to ravioli and sauces. There will be cheese, pickles, flowers and plants, bread, fish, meat and poultry. Even homemade soap will be available. You can also participate in cooking demonstrations, tastings and live music on the plaza.
