Grab & Go Kids Planner: March 26-27

Fun activities for your family this weekend that aren't too far away.

Spring doesn’t seem to want to make an appearance this weekend, so we’ve found some indoor activities for you and your family to check out. There’s a pasta dinner, crafts and a few performances that are definitely not your run-of-the-mill weekend excursions.

Chow Down for a Good Cause

Where: Community Presbyterian Church of Malverne12 Nottingham Rd, Malverne

When: Saturday, March 26 at 6 p.m.

Why go: What better way to enjoy a big, hearty Italian meal than with your neighbors, friends and family, especially when it benefits one of our own (a mission trip overseas). Good food, good times and a good cause!

Cost: Adults are $10 and kids are $8

A Show With Heart and Song

Where: Our Lady of Peace School, 21 Fowler Ave, Lynbrook

What: OLP Drama club presents "Downtown: A Heart in the Square"

When: Sunday, March 27 at 2 p.m.

Why go: Come out and support the local arts and these hard-working students.  Enjoy a show filled with singing and dancing by the Our Lady of Peace On Stage Actors

Cost: Tickets are $5

Passover Crafting

Where: 455 Neptune Blvd., Long Beach

What: Children’s Craft Day

When: Sunday, March 27 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Why go: This will be an afternoon of exciting crafts, including making seder plates, Elijah and Miriam cups, afikoman bags, matzoh covers and more. A great way for children to make some special items for the upcoming Passover seder. Bagels will be provided.

Cost: $5 per child (children under six must be accompanied by an adult)

Grammy Winner Performs

Where: Adelphi University Concert Hall  (http://aupac.adelphi.edu/events/dan-zanes-concert.php)

What: Dan Zane and Friends

When: Saturday, March 26 at 11 a.m.

Why go: Come check out this Grammy winner’s performance of family friendly songs, both new and old. His music is universally appealing and has garnered him multiple Parent’s Choice Awards.  This concert will have everyone up and dancing.

Cost: $35

 Games, Crafts and G.S. Cookies

Where: The Source Mall, Lower Level Center Court, 1504 Old Country Rd. Westbury ( www.simon.com/mall)

What: Kidgits Spring Celebration

When: Saturday, March 26 from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m.

Why go: Arts, crafts, prizes and games like an Egg Relay are what’s in ‘store’ when you stop in at this local shopping center.  The Girl Scouts of America will be there selling everyone’s favorite cookies too.

Cost: The event is free for Simon Kidgits Club members. An annual membership is $5 per child, which includes access to all of their events, a t-shirt, and a membership card. Guests can sign up at Simon Guest Services, or at the event.

Student Art Exhibit

Where: Hewlett-Woodmere Public Library, 1125 Broadway, Hewlett (Boehm Meeting Room)

What: Young artists' work on display.

When: Saturday, March 26, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Sunday, March 27, from 12:30 p.m. – 5 p.m.

Why go: Marvel in the masterpieces of these young artists and nurture your child's creative side.

Cost: Free

Kids Rock N' Roll

Where: Long Island Children’s Museum (www.licm.com)

What: Family Rock Band

When: Saturday, March 26 and Sunday, March 27 at 2 p.m.

Why go: The Bari Koral Rock Band returns to the museum! This fun and energetic performance will have everyone (kids and adults) moving and grooving.  Her music touches on a variety of themes so everyone can relate.

Age: 3 and up

Cost: $4 with museum admission or $8 for theater only

Wacky Animals on Stage

Where: Tilles Center (www.tillescenter.org/event.cfm?id=525)

What: Giggle, Giggle, Quack

When: Sunday, March 27 at 2 p.m.

Why go: Adapted from the book by Doreen Cronin, this hilarious, madcap musical adventure tells the story of Farmer Brown’s vacation and what goes on while he’s away. When the animals are left in charge, Duck takes the reigns and shakes things up!

Age: recommended ages are 3-9

Cost: tickets are $14 or $22

Special Note: Family Workshop time: 1 pm
Join in for a special story time as you read the book and stir up trouble with duck! You'll hear plenty of giggles as families act out the hilarious sequel to Click Clack Moo: Cows that Type. Each workshop is approximately 45 minutes and recommended for children ages 3 and up. Light refreshments are served after the workshop. Tickets are $5 and are only available to ticket buyers of the accompanying show.

Romp Around in RVC

Where: Rockville Centre Recreation Center, 111 Oceanside Rd., Rockville Centre

What: Roll Around Play Day

When: Sunday, March 27 from 9:15 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.

Why go: A fun, safe environment for the little ones to run, tumble and play in the gymnasium.

Ages: 1-4 years old

Cost: $8 per family

 Bottle Cap Creations

Where: Michael’s Craft Store,  3610 Long Beach Rd., Oceanside

What: Craft creations using bottle caps

When: Sunday, March 27 from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m.

Why go: Using their supplies, create unique crafts using bottle caps, beads, glitter etc.  Show your creative side and take your masterpieces home when you’re done.

Age: 3 and up

Cost: free
