Jan. 13: Mysterious Owls, Snowing Pains, Plus Three More Things to Know Today

  1. Unlock Mystery of Owls: A naturalist of the Sweet Briar Nature Center will bring three types of owls to the at 4:30p.m. to teach kids about the mystery of owls. The event is open to students in grades grades 3 to 7.
  2. Malverne High School PTA Meets: The Parent-Teacher Association for meets tonight at 7:30p.m. at the high school. Did you miss the Board of Education meeting held earlier this week at the high school? Check out our full recap to learn about a program that has increased the number of students earning honor roll and led to a drop in suspensions. You can also find out why cupcakes and bake sales have some parents and board members up in arms. for the full story.
  3. Joys and Pains of Snow: Love it or hate it, the snowstorm that was predicted for the area did come through. Take a look at to see how some of the younger residents enjoyed their day off from school playing in the snow, while others spent Wednesday working to clean up the streets and sidewalks. With all going on about plow service in the community during and after December's blizzard, Patch also asked residents to share their photos and tell us about how their blocks are looking after the latest snowfall.   4. Bowling and Basketball: The Rams and Mules hit the lanes again for another exciting bowling series, but this time, not against each other. They will take on their neighbors in Valley Stream, with Malverne challenging the tough V.S. South squad and going head-to-head with V.S. Central. Both games are at 4:15pm at Rockville Centre Lanes. The Lady Rams JV and Varsity Basketball teams also take to the courts tonight for away games at Manhasset High School. Varsity will play first at 4:30p.m. followed by the JV game at 6p.m. The L.I.
