Jan. 17: MLK Jr. Day and a Lynbrook Student is Named an Intel Semifinalist

Five things of interest in the village today.

Here are five things you need to know in Lynbrook today:

1 — Monday will be mostly sunny and about 25 degrees. Snow is possible very late into Tuesday, with about an inch of snow possible.

2 — In recognition of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, the Lynbrook School District and Lynbrook Public Library are closed today. Regular hours resume tomorrow.

3 — If you have the day off, stop by at 11 a.m. The Atlantic Avenue culinary center is offering a Junior Chef Class, where participants can learn how to make chicken fried steak with cream gravy, southern style cheese grits, Hoppin' John Salad with pecan vinaigrette, and pear and gingerbread cobbler. The class is $59 per person. For more information, call (516) 599-2922.

4 — In case you were wondering, this month's school board meeting — postponed due to last week's snowstorm — will be held this Wednesday, Jan. 19 at 7:30 p.m. at Lynbrook High School.

5 — And a Lynbrook High School student was named an Intel Semifinalist. Find out who in an article we have running later today.
