Jan. 18: Pilates Class, Lynbrook Soccer Player in Elite Company

Here are five things of interest in the village this Tuesday.

We hope everyone enjoyed their day off for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day yesterday. But now it's back to the grind, as village shops and schools closed for the holiday are back to business as usual.

Here are five things of interest in Lynbrook today:

1 — The Per Sempre Ladies Lodge 2344A Order Sons of Italy in America will hold a general meeting from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at its headquarters at 815a Sunrise Highway in Lynbrook. New members are always welcome to help this fraternal and philanthropic organization that helps raise money for many scholarships and local charities.

2 — Is getting back in the gym one of your New Year's resolutions? Then you may want to check out the pilates class being held at at 8:30 a.m. This class is open to members only. Call (516) 593-9100 for more information.

3 — Calling all non-cooks! Drop by on Atlantic Avenue for a five-part series on the basics of cooking, including how to measure, read and understand a recipe, and setting up your kitchen. You'll also learn how to slice and chop with knives, how to cook vegetables, and techniques in broiling, grilling and roasting. This five-part course costs $345.
