June 10: L.I. Water Seeking Rate Hike, Sunrise Highway Project

Five things you need to know today in Lynbrook.

The following are five things you need to know today in Lynbrook and/or Patch:

1 — Friday comes with a chance of showers and thunderstorms, but it also brings some relief from yesterday's heat, which, in Lynbrook, reached the low 90s. Today will be a bit cooler, with a high of 82 degrees during the day; a low of about 64 degrees at night.

3 — Long Island American Water is seeking a rate increase, which would go into effect as early as next year. Patch sat down with company president Bill Varley to discuss the reasons for the proposed increase, and spoke with local village officials to see how they are reacting to the news. 5 — Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano is expected to make an announcement later today on which company will take over the Long Island Bus system. Look out for that story later this afternoon.
