Water was essential for cooling off residents Thursday as the temperatures neared 100 degrees, but it will most likely have some of them heated if a proposed rate increase for one local utility company is approved.

  1. LIAW Rate Hike: Long Island American Water, the utility that services Malverne and Lakeview, is seeking a rate increase, which could go into effect as early as next year.
