June 13: Saving on Gas, Fighting for Teachers and Tennis Time

Another week begins in Malverne and West Hempstead today and while there are only a few weeks left until the school year ends, many have concerns about what the state of their child's education will be come September.

At a recent school board meeting in Malverne, parents, teachers and students spoke out about teacher cuts, ongoing contract negotiations and worries about the district's focus going forward. Find out more later today.

Here's a look at the top headlines for June 13: 

1. "Save Our Teachers": This was the plea of some students who carried signs and spoke out at the Malverne Board of Education meeting Tuesday - the same night that alumni and residents the high school. A number of Malverne teachers have been given notice that they may not have a job next year and the rest are working without a contract. Check back later today for the story.

4. Malverne Kids Hit Courts: Approximately 300 elementary students from the Malverne school district discovered a new 'love' last week when they spent a day at Hempstead Lake Indoor Tennis. The kids had a blast as most were introduced to the sport. Check out the video today.
5. W.H. PTSA: Parents, students, faculty and administrators for the West Hempstead school district will hold a P.T.S.A. meeting tonight, starting at 7: 30 p.m., in the Middle School cafeteria.
