June 6: Brown Water, MTA Cuts, Pre-Prom, Awards Night and More

A look at the top headlines for this Monday in Malverne and West Hempstead.

We start the week off in Malverne and West Hempstead by taking a look at how two politicians are addressing hot-button issues for the area and how seniors prepped for prom this year.

  1. Councilmen Tackle Issues: Two New York State Councilmen - Ed Ra and Brian Curran - who represent residents of Malverne and West Hempstead, spoke recently about many important local issues (brown water, MTA service, etc.) while fielding questions from the public. Find out what was discussed at the town-hall-style meeting today.
  2. Pre-Prom: Before Malverne High School seniors headed of to their prom last week, they showed off their fabulous attire on the red carpet. (See the photos.) With their prom approaching, the West Hempstead students also held an event through which they received a sobering lesson on the consequences of drinking and driving. Look for the story today.
  3. Save on Gas: With gasoline hovering around $4 to $5 per gallon still, Patch scoured the neighborhood to see what stations are offering the best (and worst) prices this week. to find out. 
  4. Awards Night: Both Malverne and West Hempstead High Schools will host award ceremonies tonight for their senior athletes. Malverne will start their event at 6:45 p.m. in the gym and West Hempstead will begin at 7 p.m. in the auditorium.
  5. Little League: Late last week, two hometown youth baseball teams - Malverne vs. West Hempstead - competed in a close, but brief battle on one local Little League field. Get the story and photos this afternoon.
