Lynbrook: A Week in Review

In this Sunday feature, Patch recaps all its main stories from the past several days.

On Sunday, Lynbrook Baptist Church held a ceremony to to members of the Nassau County Coalition Against Domestic Violence. The money was raised for the organization during a charity softball game, which pitted church members against the Lynbrook Volunteer Fire Department.

On Monday, Lynbrook Patch reported that the village will receive federal money for a streetscaping project on Hempstead Avenue at the "five corners." The money can be used for brick crosswalks, installation of lights, and sidewalk and curb repairs.

Ellen Curran, mother of village Mayor Brian Curran, died on Monday at the age of 75. Her funeral was held on Friday.

On Wednesday, the Lynbrook Chamber of Commerce held its first Breakfast of Champions meeting, an early-morning networking session at the Lynbrook Diner. Members talked about their businesses and discussed village happenings.

The school board met on Wednesday. Trustees passed a resolution opposing a county proposal to eliminate the "county guarantee" and transfer a portion of tax certiorari payments to school districts. Officials also discussed the possibility of purchasing a turf field for the district.

On Friday, Lynbrook business owner Stephen Wangel was honored as a Small Businessperson of the Year at a Nassau Council of Chambers breakfast. Wangel, owner of the Kitchen Loft, was nominated by the Lynbrook Chamber.
