Lynbrook Chamber Focusing on Members' Needs

Group plans to survey over one thousand village businesses.

The newly formed focus group of the Lynbrook Chamber of Commerce held two meetings recently. The purpose of the group is to identify challenges and opportunities to improve the business climate of the local economy, and promote the businesses of the membership, increasing business for the membership.

The group presented numerous concepts for programs, which would attain the goals of the committee. They included loyalty, or frequent shopper rewards cards, lectures, promotions, enhancement of the chamber’s website to improve its consumer friendly appearance, and promoting e-commerce to its members.

The group agreed that although these were all good ideas, it was concerned that getting member-businesses on-board with these concepts was a challenge. The committee decided that it was best to survey every business in Lynbrook to discover what their greatest challenges are, and how the chamber may address these challenges with an eye toward implementing a program for their resolution.

“The economy shows no signs of dramatic improvement in the near-term”, said Stephen Wangel, chairman of the group and owner of The Kitchen Loft. “If we are going to prosper, the fix has got to come from within. We need to know what is on the minds of our area businesses if we are going to help solve their problems. This survey is the key to knowing what is broken so we can help implement a solution.”

The committee reports that it is currently working on a survey that will be distributed to all 1300 businesses in the Lynbrook zip-code. The survey will hone in on programs that will create greater consumer awareness of local businesses, and make them the first destination to fulfill consumer needs. The survey will also be available on the Chamber’s website.

Wangel is the chairman of the Lynbrook Chamber's focus group and owner of The Kitchen Loft.
