Monday

- Lynbrook North Middle School students created Valentine's for Veterans.
- The Lynbrook Junior Fire Department was honored by the Town of Hempstead for being the "Best Appearing" junior fire department in Nassau County.
- A Lynbrook police officer and one pedestrian were hurt in a car accident outside of North Middle School.
- Flowers by Freyhammer in Lynbrook got ready for the Valentine's Day rush.
Tuesday
- We ran our Lynbrook Valentine's Day guide for 2012.
- A West End student was selected as the PTA reflections winner. Angela Dattoma will be recognized at the Nassau Region Reflections Awards Ceremony on April 18.
- The East Rockaway village board welcomed local boy scouts to Monday's meeting. The village also announced that they will receive $45,390.57 followed by an additional $242.14 from its insurance company for Hurricane Irene damage.
- An NYPD officer from Lynbrook was shot during a subway shootout Tuesday night. Kevin Herlihy was reportedly shot in the arm and returned home to Lynbrook this week.Â

- Lynbrook Police warned residents of a phone scam that has been victimizing elderly residents.
- Police also released the weekly crime report. A grand larceny arrest and identity thefts were reported.
- The Marion Street fifth grade drama club performed as pirates in "The Pirates of the Curry Bean."
Thursday
- The East Rockaway school board said no to the Princeton Plan at Wednesday night's meeting.Budgetary concerns doom the unpopular reorganization.
- The East Rockaway post office could soon be re-named after longtime employee John Cook. Having passed the full House of Representatives, the legislation now moves to the Senate for a vote before it can be signed into law by the president.
- The Lynbrook Board of Education held the first budget work session for the 2012-13 school year. The elimination of a Latin class, the creation of a double block of English in middle school and the increase in class sizes at the kindergarten level were among the proposed changes announced.
- We listed several upcoming events for the Lynbrook Chamber of Commerce.Â
Friday
- Kristie Lengel of L.E.A.R.N. held a fitness fundraiser for the Vulcan firehouse. Part of the proceeds of the classes held at Vulcan were donated to the fire house, where Lengel’s father Carl is a 35-year member and current captain.
- The Lynbrook girls basketball team defeated South Side in the first round of the playoffs Thursday night.Â
- The Lynbrook High School Chapter of the Tri-M Music Honors Society inducted 20 new members during a music-filled ceremony on Thursday night in the auditorium.Â
Saturday
- Lynbrook students swept New York State honors at the Knowledge Master Open.
