Lynbrook Week in Review

A look back at the stories covered over the past week.

The following is a summary of major stories covered by Lynbrook Patch over the past week:

On Aug. 27, Lynbrook resident Robert King was arrested and charged with Robbery 1st Degree after he allegedly pulled out a gun and attempted to steal cash from C&R Stationery Store in Lynbrook on Aug. 26.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) is considering the release of an RFP to bring in tenants for the long-vacant stores below the railroad trestle on Atlantic Avenue. Village officials are trying to push the MTA toward offering years of free rent to prospective tenants in exchange for the tenants paying to fix up the stores, which are currently in poor condition.

Former New York Mets and Yankees pitcher Dwight Gooden visited Card Shack in Lynbrook, meeting fans and signing autographs.

Three Republican candidates seeking the party nomination to run against Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy faced off in a League of Women Voters debate on Aug. 31. The three — Francis Becker, who currently has the nomination; and challengers Dan Maloney and Frank Scaturro — traded jabs during a forum that got rowdy at times. But despite the hostility, the candidates did discuss their plans for improving the economy and creating jobs in America.

Village officials planned for Hurricane Earl, but the once-Category 4 hurricane was virtually a no-show in Nassau County.
