PHOTOS: Malverne, West Hempstead Pay Tribute With Parades

The communities commemorate Memorial Day 2011.

The sun came out just in time for the West Hempstead community to kick-off its Memorial Day parade on Monday and it continued to shine upon Malvernites as they marched later in the afternoon.

Uniformed veterans, volunteer firefighters and EMTs, and many other community groups paraded through the local streets to honor the soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.

A wave of red-white-and blue flowed down Hempstead Avenue, Church Street, Foster and Franklin, as youngsters clad in Scouts and sports uniforms waved flags as they stepped to the beat of various marching bands.
