March 15: Happy 100th Birthday to Lynbrook, Village Election, Candidate Profiles

Five things you need to know today in Lynbrook.

The following are five things you need to know today in Lynbrook and/or on Patch:

1 — Today is the village election, and the following incumbents are running for re-election: Bill Hendrick (mayor), Alan Beach (deputy mayor), and Thomas Atkinson (trustee). There are no challengers. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Lynbrook Recreation Center, and Patch will have final vote tallies after polls close.

2 — Patch conducted a Q&A with each of the incumbents running for re-election today. See what each candidate's goals are for the next four years in a story we have running later today.

3 — One-hundred years ago today, the Village of Lynbrook was incorporated. But there's a history — some of it quite comical — behind residents' efforts to have the Lynbrook area incorporated. In fact, it failed twice. Lynbrook Patch interviewed village historian Art Mattson to get the full story, which will be posted on the site later today.

4 — No. 94 in the Patch series of "" will be posted later today. See if there's a great Lynbrook shop you've never been to or a great slice of pizza you've never tried.

5 — Remember, today is no longer the deadline to submit your Needs Assessment Survey to the Lynbrook School District. The district is accepting surveys until the end of the month. Click here to get a copy of the survey.
