Here's the top five things to know for March 23:

  1. React to MTA Cuts: The Metropolitan Transportation Authority is holding an open public meeting today at Hofstra University from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Adams Playhouse to give residents a chance to speak up regarding the proposed cuts in service to Long Island Bus and Able Ride. to see what lines in Malverne and West Hempstead could be affected and to learn more about the meeting.
  2. Seuss Show-Stoppers: Missed Malverne High School's performance of Seussical the musical earlier this month or just want to relive it? Check out video highlights from the show along with a story later today.
  3. Moms Talk Budget Cuts: This week our local Mom's Council discusses school budgets - what programs they feel must stay and what they're willing to sacrifice. Join in the conversation starting at 12:30 p.m. today.
  4. Register Now: Two fun events that both support worthy causes are coming to Malverne. On April 9, is teaming up with the Malverne Civic Association to hold its annual Souper Scavenger Hunt. Teams of residents will scour the neighborhood collecting non-perishable items for the church's food pantry while racking up points to win prizes. Registration is open now. Get more details here.In May, will also be the site of the community's first Relay for Life to raise money for the American Cancer Society. Individuals and teams can sign up here and start collecting pledges.
  5. Scouts Honor: Our local Girl Scouts have been out in the neighborhood selling boxes of cookies. While it may seem that all these young girls are learning is how to close a deal, one leader shares the unexpected lessons that have arisen in the field, particularly from our veterans.
