We're just 12 days away from the special election for the village of Malverne. Today we continue our look at the candidates. Plus, check out the weekly crime report for the neighborhood, sign up for a Souper Scavenger Hunt and more.

Here are our top headlines for March 8.

  1. Meet the Candidate: Earlier this week, we shared our interview with Dr. Carol Hassett, who is running in the March 20 election for a three-year term as village trustee, a seat once held by the late Jim Callahan. Later today, hear from the other candidate, Trustee Patricia Canzoneri-Callahan.
  2. Crime Report: Find out what burglaries, thefts and other incidents were reported in the neighborhood this week when our Crime Watch posts later this morning.
  3. Strategic Planning: The West Hempstead school district's Strategic Planning Council will meet tonight at 7 p.m. in the to discuss implementing the three-year plan it devised last year. The public is welcomed to attend.
