Malverne School Board Race: Just five days before residents in the Malverne School District head to the polls, a new candidate has emerged in what had been an uncontested race for the only open seat on the school board. the current board of education president, is seeking a third term and will be the only name to appear on the ballot May 17, but another Malverne man - - is hoping to win as a "write-in" candidate.   2. West Hempstead Budget: The Board of Education for the West Hempstead School District held its final meeting before the budget vote on May 17. The board and administrators presented their final remarks on the figures, as members of the community expressed their differing views on the budget.
