May 4: School Budget Hearing, Patch Interviews Former Chief Burke

Five things you need to know today in Lynbrook.

The following are five things you need to know today in Lynbrook and/or on Patch:

1 — After a beautiful sunny day on Tuesday, Wednesday is forecast to be the exact opposite. On-and-off showers, with possible thunderstorms mixed in, are likely throughout the day. A high of 60 degrees is expected.

2 — He's known around Lynbrook simply as "Chief." This week, Raymond Burke took some time to chat with Patch about his time in the Lynbrook Fire Department, the last year of which he served as chief. Check out that story later today.

3 — TOPSoccer, organized by the village Recreation Department and the Lynbrook/East Rockaway Soccer League, is now up and running. Patch checked in with the league presidents to see how everything is going. Look out for that story later today.

5 — If you haven't been following the school budget process up to this point, you may want to stop by the meeting of the Lynbrook Board of Education tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the high school. This is the official hearing on the district budget. Residents will have the opportunity to ask questions during a public comment session at the end of the meeting.
