On the Farm: Cider, Pies and Bigger Pumpkins

See what's growing, selling and happening at Nassau County's Crossroads Farm in Malverne.

Did you know that there is an apple cider mill located in Nassau County?

Jericho Cider Mill, located in Jericho, makes fresh apple cider and apple pies, which are now being sold at the farmers market at Crossroads Farm at Grossmann's in Malverne. The pies - $7.95 for a small, $18.50 for a large - also come in pumpkin, pecan, apple crumb and apple raspberry varieties.

You'll find them in the refrigerator at Crossroads along with free-range eggs from Armstrong Farm in Lattington, cow cheese from Mecox Bay farm in Bridgehampton and goat cheese from Catapano Dairy in Peconic.

Also, new this week at the Nassau-County-owned farm stand is broccoli and cauliflower from Wesnofski Island End Farms in Peconic and some nice size pumpkins.Crossroads also continues to carry a wide selection of apples from Wickhams Fruit Farm, fall gourds, and spinach and lettuce from Deer Run Farm in Brookhaven.

If you're looking for produce grown right here in Malverne, this week there are baskets full of tomatos, onions, garlic, string beans, black-eyed peas, arugala, beets, squash, zuchini, peppers and eggplant.

You can also pick up fresh flowers to design your own bouquet or purchase a fall plant. Mums are very popular right now.
