PHOTOS: Early Aftermath of Irene in Malverne-West Hempstead [VIDEO]

Irene left downed trees and power lines and high water levels at Halls Pond early Saturday.

Although the eye of the Hurricane Irene had yet to encounter Malverne and West Hempstead early Saturday morning, already the water level at Halls Pond had risen and both communities were overrun with downed trees, branches and power lines.

Several homes were experiencing power outages, roads were being shut down and firefighters were continuing to work around the clock. for the full story.

Local photographer Lou Minutoli canvassed the neighborhood around 7 a.m. and captured these images and footage. (See above.)
