Plow Patrol: How's Your Block Looking?

Show or tell us how your street - in Malverne or West Hempstead - is looking after the snowstorm.

The plows are out, but have they cleaned up your street?

Last month's snowstorm left about the poor plowing they said they received in their neck of the woods. Well, Patch wants to help!

I've posted a photo of my street in Malverne, which looks pretty clear (This photo was snapped around 8am Wednesday.) but now I want to see (or even hear) about the state of yours.

Also, remember to practice these rules when clearing snow from your property for everyone's sake.

  • Don't blow snow from your property back into the road. This only adds to the work that the plow drivers must do. Apparently during the December blizzard.
  • Clear the snow to the right of your driveway to avoid being "plowed in."
  • Residents are required to shovel their sidewalks.
  • If you have a fire hydrant in front of your house, from this so it can be accessed if necessary.
  • Do not park your car out on the street overnight. (In the village of Malverne, overnight parking permits have been revoked since the first major snowfall.)
  • Do not drive down a street that has not been plowed yet. You'll just get stuck and emergency crews - who already find themselves extra busy in the wake of a snow storm - will need to come get you out.
  • If you are able to assist an older residents, the senior citizens in Malverne are looking for people to shovel their properties. Contact at 516-599-1200.
  • ....and help your neighbor when you can.

Stay safe and try to stay warm! Happy Snow Day!
