School Board, Panthers, PTA and More Things to Know for Jan. 18

  1. Snow, Freezing Rain Predicted: The National Weather Service is forecasting snow and freezing rain for Tuesday morning before 9a.m. While the snow and ice could create hazardous conditions for the early rush hour, it isn't expected to stick around. New snow accumulations are predicted to be only half an inch. Stay with Patch for more updates on the weather and how it will affect you.
  2. West Hempstead School Board Meets: The monthly business meeting of the West Hempstead Board of Education will be held tonight at 7:30 pm in . Check ou of last month's meeting to see why firefighters and soccer moms and dads were unhappy with the decisions made by the board. Some of the issues discussed may be revisited.
  3. Fate of Foreign Language Courses: With New York State cutting funding for foreign language exams, a coalition of educators and school administrators on Long Island, including representatives from the Malverne and West Hempstead school districts, began exploring this fall. On Friday, this group joined together to discuss the future of foreign language education in New York. Patch will have the full story of what was discussed later today.
  4. Panthers and PTA at Herber: Malverne's will continue to host the tonight in the gym, while the meets in the library. The PTA meeting will start at 7pm. The clinic begins at 7:30pm.
  5. Work It: Exercise classes continue at the and with Marilyn Bunger. A certified fitness instructor, Bunger will teach one of her signature Simply Stronger classes at the , a low-impact program, at 10am and then head over to to lead a special exercise class for those with Arthritis or Fibromyalgia at 11:30am. Contact your local librarian for more information about these work-out classes and others offered throughout the year.
