Sept. 27: County Honors Callahan, 'Reel' Journey Preview, Sports Digest and More

A look at the top headlines for this Tuesday in Malverne and West Hempstead.

Just as the loss of Malverne Deputy Mayor and OEM Commissioner Jim Callahan continues to be felt my his loved ones and former colleagues, his legacy also endures and continues to impact all residents throughout Nassau County. Today we look at how County officials are honoring Jim's memory and lasting impact.

We also have sneak peek at Steve Strangio's cinematic adventure, the second edition of our Daily Sports Digest and more headlines for Sept. 27.

  1. County Honors Callahan: On Monday County Executive Ed Managano, other officials, colleagues, friends and family of the late Jim Callahan joined together for a special dedication ceremony at Nassau's Office of Emergency Management headquarters. Get the story later today.
  2. Daily Sports Digest: On Monday, Patch launched its an easy way to follow the hometown teams in your community. Get high school and youth sports highlights starting at 9 a.m. today.
  3. Cinema Sneak Peek: Funny guy Steve Strangio is hoping to see some stars on his next journey as he travels to Malverne Cinema 4. His latest video is coming soon to a Patch near you. (Kidding!) Get a preview of his report, which will premiere Wednesday, at 11 a.m. today.
  4. Parents and Mums: The West Hempstead PTSA will be selling mums tonight from 6:30 p.m.-9 p.m. in the high school cafeteria during Back-to-School Night. Over in Malverne, the Howard T. Herber Middle School PTA will be meeting at 7 p.m. in the library.
  5. Talent Show: Can you sing, dance, tell jokes, touch your tongue to your nose? Malverne's Teen Advisory Group is putting on their first talent show this fall.
