With the 10th anniversary of 9/11 just days away, this Friday we will be looking at how Malverne and West Hempstead will honor the local men and women lost when our country was attacked.

  1. Malverne Remembers: Residents of Malverne are encouraged to attend a candlelight ceremony this Sunday night to reflect on the four Malvernites who lost their lives on 9/11. Get the details .
  2. West Hempstead Gives Back: To honor the legacy of a firefighter from West Hempstead who gave his life to help others on 9/11, the Lakeview Fire Department is hosting a blood drive this weekend. The community will also light candles and place a wreath at Halls Pond Park Sunday night. Find out more about this tributes later today.
  3. A Mother's Loss: "Time has not moved forward for me," says Susan Ainbinder Carroll, who lost her son, Kevin Colbert, a West Hempstead High School alum, when the Twin Towers collapsed on 9/11.
