Five things of interest in Lynbrook this weekend.

Finally, it's the weekend. If you're looking for something to do but don't want to travel far, there are plenty of events and things to do right here in Lynbrook.

Here are five things you need to know for Saturday and Sunday:

1 — The Lynbrook area will likely get more snow this weekend, but don't worry, it's only expected to be flurries, according to the National Weather Service. Saturday and Sunday will have temperatures in the mid 30s.

2 — will be hosting a hands-on cooking class for a parent and child team. Spend some quality time with each other while learning how to prepare such meals as: mini zucchini-tomato quiche, spinach dumplings, fizzy chicken with lemon vinaigrette and rice, and double cool brownie and cream bars.

3 — With less than a week to go before County Executive Ed Mangano has to prove to the Nassau Interim Finance Authority that he will not run a budget deficit greater than one percent in 2011, county Republican leaders are seeking a bill that would allow them to force Nassau union concessions, if Mangano is unable to peacefully negotiate for them. Mangano's deadline is Jan. 20, after which it is rumored that NIFA may step in to take over county finances. Patch's story will be live at noon today.

4 — It was a busy week in Lynbrook. The village board had a lot on its plate at Monday's meeting, heavy snow fell in the Lynbrook area, and the Chamber of Commerce appointed its officers. Check back at 4 p.m. for our Week in Review article.
