Where is This Mural Located?

There is some history behind this Lynbrook mural painting.

This mural is found somewhere around Lynbrook. It is painted by Kevin O'Malley, and shows the LIRR crossing at Atlantic Ave. and Stauderman Ave., in 1915.

"The tracks were first laid just after the Civil War ended, and were not elevated until 1939," according to Lynbrook Historian, Art Mattson.

"You will note that there is a steam train in the mural. Even though the track was electrified in 1910, steam trains continued to pass through to Jamaica from points east," Mattson said.

"The tracks in the background are not railroad tracks," he added. "They belong to the LI Traction Co., a trolley company. The LITC rain a trolley from Jamaica to Freeport from 1904 to about 1925."
