Wine Down Or Party Up With Malverne Civic

The Malverne Civic Association invites wine enthusiasts to an Evening of Good Taste.

Whether you consider yourself a wine connoisseur or your favorite chardonnay comes in a box, you can enjoy an "evening of good taste" and great company in Malverne this month.

"It gets bigger every year," says Malverne Civic Association President Peter Robideau of the organization's spring wine tasting event scheduled for April 29.

"It's a great place for people to kick off the new season, get out of the house and mingle with neighbors they haven't seen through the hibernation of winter."

This is the third year the civic is hosting the event, but the second time it will be held at the American Legion in Malverne.

"We used the historical house the first year, but it got so popular we had to move it," said Robideau, adding that last year's sold-out event attracted 250 people. He expects a crowd of equal size again.

To reflect this year's theme, "An Evening of Good Taste," volunteers will transform the American Legion Post 44 into a trendy, chic wine bar that Robideau describes as having touches of both a South Beach club and a Long Island vineyard.

The catering hall will be covered with lighted trees, white linens and sheer fabrics to create a fresh and elegant atmosphere, where locals can sip on premium Long Island vinos and indulge in delicious treats while chatting with their neighbors.

Twenty-five wines from five different local vineyards will be on the menu, along with a variety of cheeses, crackers, fruit and freshly made dips prepared by a former contestant of the Food Network's hit show Chopped. There will also be two chocolate fondue fountains.

Amid the sipping, snacking and speaking with friends, guests can also show off their moves on the dance floor.

You may have something new to toast about at the end of the night too, as there will be several prizes up for grabs. More than a dozen gift certificates to local merchants will be raffled off that can be used for indulgences such as dining, yoga classes, jewelry, haircuts and movie nights. One lucky winner will walk away with the grand prize of a weekend stay at a New York City hotel.

Tickets can be purchased in advance for $25 at Village Hall or by calling 516-242-1522.
