WTC Steel Driven Through Lynbrook

Village brings home two pieces of Twin Towers wreckage.

Two steel columns from the wreckage of the Twin Towers were transported through Lynbrook today, en route to an Oceanside steel shop, where a Lynbrook resident will make some modifications so the pieces can be placed at the village 9/11 memorial.

Lynbrook firefighters, joined by their counterparts in Malverne, Rockville Centre, Valley Stream, and Oceanside, flew American flags over several roadways. The steel was transported under an escort from the fire department, Lynbrook police, and 30 motorcyclists from the Patriot Guard and Fire Riders of New York City.

Residents lined Atlantic Avenue and Union Avenue in Lynbrook as the steel beams were driven through the area on the way to Oceanside.
