Girl Scouts of Nassau County- Girls Receive Their Gold Award's

Hello my name is Carlye Gilbert. I have been in Girl Scout troop 1842 since Kindergarden- yes, that means thirteen years! I am very proud to announce that I am receiving my Girl Scout Gold Award!

For my project I created a recycling program at the local elementary school, John Street. The school’s recycling program is now in full swing! Every classroom has a large cardboard box for teachers and students to recycle any un-needed papers.   Along with this, students have been recycling bottles while at lunch. I have been very persistent in recycling all the bottles collected at lunch and in the school’s hallway recycling stations. John Street will be using all the bottle return money to better the school’s recess program. Not only did I encourage all students to recycle in school, but also to recycle at home and wherever they go. The recycling program hopefully, will continue for many more years to come. Throughout my project I  tried hard to spread the awareness of how important recycling is in the community.

Along with starting the recycling program at John Street, I had a recycling booth set up at a holiday fair. I made projects with hundreds of children to show how one can reuse materials. I also met with multiple Girl Scout troops. When I met with the local troops I spoke about how important recycling is and I also made a project with the children out of recycling goods. I even helped multiple troops earn their recycling badge.
