Residents Urged to Attend Town of Hempstead Redistricting Meeting

Notice of Town of Hempstead Redistricting Hearing.

On April 9, 2013 at 10:30am, at Town Hall (1 Washington Street Hempstead), the Town of Hempstead will be holding its one and only meeting regarding the redistricting of the Town's Councilmatic districts, a process whose results will effect ALL residents for the next 10 years.

I am inviting all Town residents to attend this very important Town Board meeting because your Town Supervisor Kate Murray and the Town Board WILL NOT!

Over the years, the Town Board has sent mailings notifying residents of car shows, concerts, and even Easter egg hunts. These mailings cost taxpayers millions of dollars and according to the Town is the least expensive way to keep residents informed (see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nzq67LIQ3dw).

It is now less than a week before the Town's redistricting hearing and your elected Town representatives have NOT felt a need to inform their constituents.

During the three most recent Town Board meetings, Supervisor Murray and Councilman Santino were asked to have the redistricting meetings streamed online so residents who cannot attend, have the opportunity to view the process from their home computer.  In each case the response was “we'll take it under advisement”.

I urge residents to attend this very important meeting.  I also urge everyone to please contact Kate Murray at katemurray@tohmail.org and tell her to put the redistricting meeting online so all residents have the opportunity to view and participate in the process.

Redistricting information can be found on the Town's website at : http://toh.li/meetings-and-hearings/town-board-calendar.
