A LNG PORT OFF LONG ISLAND WILL THREATEN MILLIONS

A shadowy foreign corporation is seeking federal approval to build a deepwater port nineteen miles off Long Beach, a community that was devastated by Superstorm Sandy. Like Sandy, the so-called “Port Ambrose” project could be a colossal disaster, albeit of a different kind. The ships that would transport liquefied natural gas (LNG) in and out of the port are enormous—as long as three football fields and twenty stories high—if all the condensed gas on board were released into the atmosphere, it would form a combustible vapor cloud that could inflict untold damage on nearby communities. The Council on Foreign Relations published a report stating, “Al Qaeda has specifically cited LNG as a desirable target”, and Sandia National Laboratories identified four ways terrorists might employ a loaded LNG vessel as a weapon of mass destruction. The most catastrophic scenario involves hijacking a tanker, sailing it toward a densely populated area, and then detonating the cargo. It’s no wonder that New Jersey Governor Chris Christie killed a similar project off the Jersey shore saying it presented “a heightened risk in a densely developed region, including potential accidents or sabotage.”

Go to http://www.catskillcitizens.org to find out more about this dangerous plan, and express you opposition. In less than a minute you can send letters to the federal Maritime Administration and to Governor Cuomo telling them why Port Ambrose should never be built.
