West Hempstead Resident Rener Reed Honored at 'Make a Difference' Ceremony

Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray and the town board recognized 12 extraordinary community members for contributions to their local neighborhoods at the 17th Annual Make A Difference Awards ceremony.

The honorees have all dedicated themselves to enriching the lives of others. Hundreds of nominations were received for the prestigious award. Murray noted that each of the honorees had an inspiring story of courage, volunteerism and philanthropy.

Rener Reed of West Hempstead was among those community members honored:

"Reed is dedicated to helping the sick, elderly, oppressed or disenfranchised members of our community. She is tireless in her pursuit of the common good and equality for all.

A respected role model for fellow residents, she is an advocate for all people regardless of their race, religion or political affiliation. She has long been a champion of young people, a true dynamo in local school districts, communities and youth organizations. She has manifested the ideals of anti-violence and respect for others.

In fact, Governor Cuomo appointed Rener as the chairperson of the first Martin Luther King Institute for Non-violence. Rener is a proud wife, mother and grandmother.  The love and emotion that characterizes her home life is shared with many community endeavors where Rener strives to promote interracial goodwill, cultural enrichment and human relations."

“Our award recipients make our lives better every day and stepped up when people needed help most in the wake of Sandy,” Murray said. “There are times when good deeds go unnoticed. But, whether it’s an ordinary day or a period of extreme need, the time is almost always right for a good deed.”
