Easter Eggs: How to Boil, Dye and Decorate Them Perfectly This Year

Thousands of households will embark on the same family activity soon — coloring Easter eggs. Here's a few recipes to get the eggs ready for your Easter art.

Easter is just a few weeks away, and that means it's time to start thinking about decorations and family activities. Here are some tips and advice from the Patch network:

1. Buying supplies: You'll need a dozen large eggs (or however many you want), vinegar and a coloring or dye kit. Here are some retro eggs, geeky eggs and other wild ways to decorate.

2. Clean up:
Make sure you wash your hands and clean the surface you'll be using. Washing up will also remove any oils from your hands that may interfere with the dye transferring to the egg shell. Also, Don’t wear anything you mind getting dye on.

3. Boil or bake the eggs: Experts tell us how to make the perfect hard boiled eggs to use. You can also poke a hole in the egg to blow out the contents.

4. Dye the eggs: Use a spoon or wire egg dipper to ease the eggs into the dye bath. You can also learn how to make your own dye using beets, turmeric and red cabbage.

5. Refrigerate: According to the American Egg Board, hard-cooked eggs should be used within one week.
