Malverne Student Council Donates to Senator Skelos Toy Drive

By Danielle Lambert

Student council members at Maurice W. Downing Primary School are spreading holiday cheer this season by donating to a toy drive hosted by Sen. Dean Skelos.

During the toy drive, which ran for several weeks at the school, students collected three large sacks of new, unused toys to benefit those in the surrounding communities.

Sen. Skelos visited the students on Dec. 18 to pick up the donations and speak about the importance of their generous acts. During his stay, the senator answered questions from the children and a little “leadership forum” for the student council members.

In return, students presented him with a community champion award for serving as a role model to the young leaders at Downing.

“You are a person we admire for your generous spirit and caring for others,” Olivia, president of the student council, shared. “We consider you a hero to the children of Downing.”
