Waverly Park's 'Cheer-Grams' Promote Holiday Spirit

Story by Rosemary Leonetti

In keeping with the true spirit of the holiday season, the student council of Waverly Park School in the Lynbrook School District has launched a clever fundraiser that encouraged fellow students to give of themselves.

Student council members sold “cheer-grams,” which are bookmarks with candy treats attached. Each cheer-gram represented a small act of kindness, chore or other act of giving that students pledged to a family member, friend or soldier. Examples of cheer-gram pledges included a big hug, homework help for a sibling, or a few kind words written to a soldier.

Proceeds from the fundraiser will go to the Ronald McDonald House and the Friends of Zachary Fund. Students worked under the guidance of student council advisers Shari Bowes and Jessica Ryan.
