A Letter to Residents of South East Lynbrook & Beyond.  We Need Your Help!

Find out what's happening in Malverne-Lynbrookwith free, real-time updates from Patch.

I’m writing on behalf of a group of Lynbrook homeowners who have repeatedly contacted local media & the Lynbrook Bd of Trustees to express our concerns & heartfelt opposition to the proposal to permit 3 adjacent private homes at #3 & #9 Merton Ave & #417 Ocean Ave. to be converted into a major parking lot expansion by the Holiday Inn Express/Rockville Centre Inn Corp. on Sunrise Hwy. We refer to our group as “Citizens for Preserving Lynbrook’s Residential Quality” (CPLRQ). You may have seen us at Village Bd of Trustees meetings or in the local press.

In the fall we were able to convince the Board of Trustees to deny the hotel owners’ request to demolish the buildings on these 3 sites to build a parking facility.  This was only temporary. Despite this fact, the hotel has violated Village Ordinances & began using these properties to park Verizon Trucks several weeks before & several months after Hurricane Sandy hit our area.

The hotel has repeated proven that they do not care about preserving the residential nature of our community by these actions & will punish the neighborhood for fighting their plans.

Update - We have been invited to a meeting at the Holiday Inn Express Hotel – at the corner of Sunrise Hwy  & Ocean Ave. on Thursday 4/11/13 @ 7:00 PM to hear their latest plans regarding to these properties.  – Please join us there –

We’ve met with the owners and their representatives several times this Spring, Summer & early Fall. Despite these meetings no serious changes were ever made in their plans – just shallow statements of using the grounds responsibly.  We’ve seen how disingenuous these statements have been over the months as they let these properties deteriorate, fill with trash, kept slovenly fencing up & used the grounds for truck & van parking.  Can you imagine what would have happened if the parking lot went through – we’d probably be looking at a large Verizon truck depot now, that’s what, though it’s almost like that now anyway - they've been parking there since mid-September, well in advance of Hurricane Sandy!

We’re asking all of our neighbors to join with us to express opposition to this blatant attempt to convert residential property to commercial propertyan encroachment that eventually impacts all of us – as well as having probably already reducing overall property values for all area residents, not just those in closest proximity to the grounds!

Please see the photos on enclosure to see how these properties have NOT been maintained.

Please join with us to hear what the hotel owners’ latest plans are – and to express concern over any commercial encroachment into our neighborhood.

If you’d like to be kept abreast of our activities – and hopefully join us in sharing a united front against commercial encroachment, please send an email to:

StopHolidayInn@gmail.com.  We also have a page on Facebook where you can share comments and keep up to date: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Stop-Holiday-Inn-of-Lynbrook

Please take a look at the photographs that accompany this letter showing how the hotel has NOT maintained the area properly.

Thank you,

The Residents of Lynbrook & RVC on Merton & Ocean Avenues.
