Get Out: Holiday Show, Hanukkah Drop Off and Photo Exhibit

An in-depth look at some upcoming weekend events.

If you’re looking to take a break from the chilly weather, this weekend brings a variety of indoor activities to keep you entertained. Stop by a photography exhibit in Freeport for a dose of culture, or try your hand at pottery during Earth Arts’ annual Hanukkah Drop Off.

On Saturday afternoon, get into the holiday spirit as Miss Colleen’s Elite Dancentre presents a performance of My One Holiday Wish at 1 p.m. at RVC’s South Side Middle School (). Colleen Gunn, president of the dance company, said, “My main mission is to bring innocence back into the lives of children and create a feeling of holiday joy in the hearts of all who are watching.”

The interactive dance performance will feature visual special effects and the popular holiday songs of Bing Crosby, Mariah Carey and Martina McBride. Gunn said, “Our show will leave you dancing and humming right out the doors of South Side Middle School.” But before leaving, be sure to stop for a photo opportunity with Santa and his reindeer.

Stop by Earth Arts for the annual Hannukah Drop Off on Sunday between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. on West Park Avenue in Long Beach.(). The event has become a tradition where families can come and create pottery together. “Our drop off gives the children an opportunity to create a gift to keep for themselves or to give as a holiday present on Hanukkah,” said Michelle Kelly of Earth Arts. In addition to making pottery, participants can play dreidle games and enjoy potato latkas and pizza.

Add some culture to your weekend by visiting photojournalist David Paone’s Documentary Photography exhibit at the Freeport Memorial Library on Merrick Road (). Paone, whose work has been published in several national magazines, displays some of his most powerful images. The exhibit will run through Dec. 30. For more information, call the library at 516-379-3274.
