March 2: Marion Street School Event, Read Across America Day

A look at today's events and announcements.

 

  • Marion Street School in Lynbrooks hosts starting at 10 a.m. Civil Rights Leader Joseph McNeil, of Woolworth Counter Sit-In fame, comes to visit Marion Street Elementary school every year, he shares his story with them, and they put on a show dealing with civil rights. 
  • Today is Read Across America Day - an annual reading motivation and awareness program that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading on March 2, the birthday of beloved children's author Dr. Seuss, according to the NEA website. will be having a Read Across America celebration from 8:30-9:30 a.m. The children will be dressed up as their favorite Nursery Rhymes and Mrs. Marino, the Librarian from Waverly, will be coming over to read to the children. Are you celebrating?
  • The is holding an . $1 a ticket. All proceeds will benefit the Our Lady of Peace Food Pantry, and the winner gets a big Perugina Chocolate Giant Egg. Drawing takes place on April 7. 
  • Temple Am Echad in Lynbrook holds tonight at 8 p.m.
