Pit Bull Found in West Hempstead Staying at Town Shelter

Lost on Long Island hoping to reunite pet with owner.

While a Franklin Square family continues to search for its missing five-month-old bulldog in the area, another dog was found Wednesday wandering in West Hempstead.

Lost on Long Island, which had posted a notice about the lost puppy Wednesday afternoon, just posted on its Facebook page that a young, male pit bull was discovered on Hempstead Turnpike later in the day (See photo above).

The dog had several close calls with cars on the busy roadway, but two people were able to catch him and a police officer brought the animal to the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter in Wantagh. The non-profit hopes the dog will be reunited with its owner. The Town's shelter is located at 3320 Beltagh Avenue and can be reached by calling 516-785-5220.
