Disney Channel Star, Islanders Visit Long Island Day Camp to Celebrate 20th Anniversary

To celebrate their 20th anniversary season, Rolling River Day Camp hosted a special Spirit Week which included visits from movie stars and professional athletes.

To celebrate their 20th anniversary season, Rolling River Day Camp in East Rockaway, New York hosted a special Spirit Week from Monday, July 9 to Friday, July 13, which included visits from movie stars and professional athletes. The week-long event was highlighted by appearances from Trevor Jackson, star of the No. 1 hit Disney Channel movie “Let It Shine!”, singer/songwriter Karlee Roberts, and New York Islanders star players Matt Moulson and Josh Bailey. Campers and staff participated in a variety of interactive events and autograph sessions with the stars through the Camplified Concert Tour and the NY Islanders Ice Tour.  Rolling River camper reporters known as “The River Reporters” provide a unique perspective on the Spirit Week events below:

Hello Rolling River, it’s Melanie Fox from G13. This week we celebrated Spirit Week. It is one of my most favorite weeks of the summer. Tuesday was a special day because of the Camplified Tour. Trevor Jackson and Karlee Roberts visited camp and gave a special concert just for us campers. It was a blast. I especially enjoyed meeting Karlee before the concert. Wednesday was Picture Day and we also got to meet Islander Matt Moulson and get his autograph along with another teammate. And finally Friday was Song and Plaque Day. Each group performed a song and presented the plaque for their group. My sister Lauren’s group G11 won the award for the Best Choreographed Song.

Spirit Week started with some crazy hairdos. I especially liked the boys with the short ponytails! Trevor Jackson’s show was great! I think he is a good singer and an awesome dancer. I told my best friend all about Trevor Jackson when I saw her after camp! Friday was Song and Plaque Day and we got to sing songs that we sang to my Dad when he came to visit Rolling River during the week. That made Spirit Week special for me.

This was the best week ever! When the Trevor Jackson concert began, everyone was dancing. Trevor Jackson is on Let it Shine!  He sang songs and someone played the guitar. He sang the song “My First Love.” The Islanders had a fun bouncy house. I met Matt Moulson and got his autograph on his picture. It felt amazing! My favorite part of the week was when Trevor Jackson sang his music.  I think all the campers felt amazed this week.

Last week was filled with many memorable moments. Our camp was lucky to have Trevor Jackson and Karlee Roberts spend the day and preform at Rolling River Day Camp. Before the performance, there were many activities on the field for the campers to experience. Some events included, taking a picture on a green screen with Trevor, crafts, and games. Trevor Jackson played basketball and beach volleyball with Rolling River campers, ate lunch with the younger boys, and even had three girls from G-15 interview him. My favorite pre- concert event was interviewing Trevor Jackson. We asked him many questions about his experiences in Camplified, acting in “Let It Shine” and preforming live on Broadway for three years as Simba from the “Lion King”. Trevor Jackson was easy to talk to and friendly. After the pre-concert activities, Trevor Jackson and Karlee Roberts performed live in an exclusive concert. The concert was full of energy. They are both amazing singers and dancers. It was really cool to meet and see both famous actors.

This week at camp was very special. Trevor Jackson and Karlee Roberts came to camp! Trevor starred as Kris in the new Disney Channel movie, “Let it Shine”. Trevor and Karlee arrived at camp at about 10:00 to hang out with campers and do camp activities. Many of the campers discovered that Trevor loves basketball and would verse anyone who wanted to. Emily Krull, Nicole Matza and I interviewed Trevor for Fanlala.com and Justine Magazine. Interviewing him was a great experience and we found out answers we were all curious to know! Trevor was very nice and loved to have fun! I didn’t really meet Karlee or hangout with her but I got the impression that she’s also very nice. They performed an exclusive concert for our camp. Everyone danced to Karlee’s song, “Call me Whatever” and Trevor showed off his dance moves while singing amazingly. This concert was fun and a great experience for campers.

The Camplified tour is a program that invites musical artists to camps all around the country. The artist that visited our camp was Trevor Jackson. My favorite pre-concert activity was playing basketball with Trevor Jackson. I thought that Trevor Jackson was a nice person, and is not shy. I like the way he relates to people and he is a great basketball player and an amazing singer. It was great to have Trevor Jackson give us a private concert, it was a real treat! The activities at the Islanders Ice Tour consisted of a bouncy house, a prize wheel, a tent where you could receive the Islanders players' autographs, and a place to shoot a hockey puck. Personally, I am a big fan of the Islanders, so to meet them and get their autographs was an exciting experience. My favorite part of this week was meeting Trevor Jackson and the Islanders. I hope that they can come again next year!

My favorite pre-concert activity was taking a picture with Trevor it was my favorite activity because whenI meet a pop star I like to take a picture with them so I can remember it. Being in the exclusive concert was awesome. The spot I was in was a great spot and it wasn’t like being at a real concert and having to sit all the way in the back and not being able to see the person singing. When Trevor Jackson came to camp I was so excited to meet him. When I found out we could take pictures with him I was so excited to take a picture with him. When it was my turn with a couple other girls from my group we got to hold his guitar. I loved taking a picture with Trevor. My thoughts about Trevor Jackson are he’s a great singer and he is a great guitar player!

This week at Rolling River was very exciting for me. I am a big fan of the Disney Channel Movies so when my mom told me that Trevor Jackson was coming I was so happy. Before Trevor gave us a concert, we were so lucky to get to play beach volleyball with him. It was so cool that he really did play with us and got into the game. Trevor Jackson is a cool and nice guy. He is nice because he signed everybody’s hats and shirts and more, which was really cool. I was able to get a signed poster which is now hanging in my room. Trevor singing to us at camp was my first real live concert. It was so much fun listening to the songs and standing up to dance. The next day was also really special because the Islanders came to visit us at camp. There were some cool activities set up that day. Such as, blowups, and a wheel game where you can win prizes. All in all it was a very exciting week. If I had to say listening to the Trevor Jackson concert was the best part of my week. Thank you to Rolling River for having so many fun activities planned for us at camp.
