How to Spend Your Time in Fabulous Boca Raton

If your like many of us New Yorkers, you have family in Florida-and you have to go visit them. Learn about all the kid friendly things to do in Boca Raton.

It is a truth universally known that in New York when people retire, they move to Florida. No, I am not saying that all retirees go to Florida but it is more common than uncommon up here.

So I am not alone in my pilgrimage down south to visit relatives. It is something my fellow Pilgrims and I have done for years, from age 2-52 "children" and "grandchildren" have done their duty by dutifully hopping on a plane and going down to, in our case, "Fabulous Boca Raton" to visit loved ones that can't help but say over and over again during the stay that you should be "coming down more often" and you keep saying over and over again "well I am here now."

So, you have arrived, now what?

Your 2-year-old is getting fussy, your grandmother, his great grandmother needs a nap more than your kid does, where does one go?

Well my friends, I have the guide for you if you want to keep yourself and your kiddies entertained while in Florida.

These are all easy, day filling ideas that will keep you sane, keep your kid continuing to be cute to the "rent's" and get you out of the house. I mean if you are going to get on a plane to visit someone, no matter how many times they ask you WHY you are leaving the house, the point is, you need to leave the house. So why not do it right.

Day One: If the family members you are visiting live in a gated community like mine do, take the first day and hit it up poolside. This is the best part of living in Florida: pools are everywhere, they are usually heated and they are usually empty. Everyone takes them for granted, you my friends will not make that mistake.

If your young one is still in diapers, for the love of Pete, please put a very secure swim diaper on your child's rump. Nothing makes a stranger come up to you faster than you can say Jiminy Cricket than the thought of your child doing a "bm" in the pool that they aren't going in anyway, but feel like they need to protect -- from your child and their's -- well you know.

Other than that, enjoy the sway of palm trees the gentle breeze and the cretching of the bridge club making their way to the club house.

Day Two: Show the kids the beach. When I say show, I mean SHOW them. This in no way means GO to the beach -- these are two separate things. I mean by all means if you want to spend a day at the beach go for it.

I personally enjoy LOOKING at the beach more than actually stepping foot on it. However I have a place where you can look, and explore if you really want to.

The Dune Deck Cafe is approximately 25 minutes from Boca in Delray and completely worth the drive.

First off, you can take the scenic route and see all the nice houses off the coast and see the beautiful water (from a distance) and is a really enjoyable ride. Secondly, it is a completely outdoor restaurant: no walls, just a canopy over it and gives you a spectacular view of the beach that is only a few feet away from it.

Read our full review and you will be more than willing to visit this amazing establishment that boasts "The only thing we overlook is the ocean!" Ha!

After you eat there is a small boardwalk and beach where you can explore without trekking out with all the needed equipment for a day at the beach. All you need here is a change of clothes for the kids, your wallet for a great meal, and quarters for the meter  There is even a great playground right off the parking lot if you guys want to partake. Really wonderful.
