This Week's Top Picks!

Check out this weeks top three events going on this weekend on Long Island. Learn about buy one get one Frapps, and Yo Gabba Gabba and Fresh Beat band give away's.

Hello everyone, happy FRIDAY from "The Mommy's Guide ..."

This weekend has a lot going on. It was really hard to choose which events would actually go in my top three. Actually, no, that's not true, I know what event was No. 1, but the second and third were tricky.

For all of you out there that did not know, this Saturday is National Train Day! If you have a son (or daughter) like mine who is obsessed with every kind of train out there, this is exciting news. In honor of National Train Day, Amtrack and Grand Central Station are having a big to-do!

I have got to say this is very exciting. You will be able to view luxury and privately owned train cars, and there will be model trains, kids activities and more at this wonderful event. It is first come, first serve, and it starts at 11 a.m., so get there early.

If you do not feel like going into the chaos that will be Grand Central Station, celebrate at home! Do train-related activities, ride a train somewhere else, read "The Little Engine That Could...," watch a train-themed movie (we know there's plenty out there!), set up your toy train set and go train crazy!

For the No. 2 slot, Lynbrook is holding a plant and gift fair at 11 St. James Place at the United Methodist Church from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m., and RVC is holding a Mother's Day sale including plants also at 430 Morris Ave. The Rockville Centre event is also from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. (I am counting those as one event; have to support our local activities!)

Finally, my No. 3 choice is a trip to the the Quarter Mile NASCAR Stock Car Track, which is now open. To be honest I had no idea this even existed, so if anyone out there goes and checks it out, let me know how it was. I am definitely going to check it out soon! There will be a 30-lap lineup, Super Pro Truck Races, Blunderbust and Chargers.

After the race, head to the pit area to see the cars up close. It is at 5:30 p.m. at the Riverhead Raceway, Route 58. Call 631-842-7223 for information.

Okay, just one more thing ... maybe two. Starbucks is having half price Frappuccino promotion from 3-5 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The Mommy's Guide ... (shameless plug) is holding a Yo Gabba Gabba give-away, and A Fresh Beat Band give-away! Go to the site for details: http://www.themommysguide.com/  and join us on Facebook to get in on the give-away (link on the website)!

Until next time, spend your time wisely!
