I remember back when Monsters Inc. first came out. The technology was new and I distinctly remember watching a program about how they made Sully’s fur so realistic. I went with my friends and to this day it remains one of my favorite Disney movies. So you know that not only was I dying to see Monster University, I was also worried it wouldn't live up to my expectations. I shouldn't of been since Disney and Pixar had it covered.
This adorable prequel brings you on Mike’s journey to be a scarer- yep that's right, our little one eyed monster wanted nothing more than to be a scarer after watching one in action when he was a kid. He worked hard and finally got into Monsters University where he met Sully, and guess what, like in many legendary friendships these two weren't too fond of each other at first! Let’s just say Sully who you learn is from a long line of famous scarers is kind of...a brat. So unlike how he is as an adult, you get to watch how he became the monster he is in Monsters Inc.
Without giving too much away they get kicked out of the scare program and join the scare games- a competition where the last team standing are the ultimate scarers. Sully and Mike, along with their ragamuffin brothers from the O.K. Fraternity, join the competition and the fun ensues. The film is full of inspiration and a surprising ending that still fits in the happily ever after realm just taking a different route.
