Dr. Kenneth Carnevale, Partner at OCLI, Dies at 44

Dr. Kenneth Carnevale, a partner at Ophthalmic Consultants of Long Island in Rockville Centre, passed away suddenly on Nov. 11. He was 44.

His practice said that Carnevale, of Bayville, was known for his kindness, charisma and goodwill and was “a great family man who put his wife and children first, Dr. Carnevale will be sorely missed by his patients, colleagues and all those who knew him in the ophthalmology industry.”

“Our hearts are heavy for this loss, not only because Dr. Carnevale was such an integral part of the OCLI family, but also because his passing was so unexpected,” said Tom Burke, CEO of OCLI. “We not only grieve at the passing of such a tremendous individual, but also for the loss his family suffers.”

Carnevale is survived by wife Sima; children Jasmine, Leila, and Sean; mother Nancy; and parents-in-law Bhanu and Jawahar Doshi, as well as many loving relatives, colleagues and friends. He was predeceased by his father Frank.

Born in Newark, Carnevale was a partner at OCLI and board certified ophthalmologist who was fellowship trained in medical and surgical diseases of the retina, vitreous and macula. He was an assistant clinical professor of ophthalmology at the New York Presbyterian Hospital in Manhattan and practiced in OCLI’s East Setauket, Lynbrook and Rockville Centre offices.

He graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Boston University. He received his doctorate of medicine from the New Jersey School of Medicine, where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He completed an internship at the multi-specialty Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington, Massachusetts and his Ophthalmology Residency at The New York Hospital — Cornell Medical Center.

While in his chief year of residency, Carnevale received the prestigious "Outstanding House-Officer" award for his skill and caring in ophthalmic surgery. During his training in vitreoretinal surgery at the New York Presbyterian Hospital, Dr. Carnevale participated in several clinical trials for macular degeneration. These studies will lead to new innovations in the treatment of this blinding disorder, according to OCLI.

Carnevale was a board certified member of numerous medical societies including the American Board of Ophthalmology, American Medical Association, New York State Ophthalmology Society and the Nassau County Medical Society.
