Edward L. Phippard, Malverne HS Graduate, Passes Away

Edward L. Phippard, 86, a Massapequa resident, died suddenly Thursday, Nov 7, 2013.

Phippard graduated from Malverne H.S. After serving in the Army with the 11th Airborne Division, he graduated from Syracuse University. He was employed by Nassau County Dept. of Social Services as Director of the Medicaid program when he retired.

He married his love, Rosemary Weiner in 1980 who predeceased him in March of 2012. He was a volunteer at St Vincent De Paul Society and an active member of St. Martin of Tours Parish in Amityville.

After losing his home from Sandy he resided at The Bristol in Masssapequa. He is survived by step-children George Weiner, Mary Weiner, Joan Stivelman, Nancy Kanzer, granddaughter Audrey Rose Kanzer, sisters Marjorie Hart, Alice Hassett, Mary Jean Murphy and 23 nieces and nephews.

Viewing will be held at Powell Funeral Home, Inc., 67 Broadway (Rt. 110), Amityville Monday, Nov 11, from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and a Mass of Christian Burial, Tuesday at St Martin of Tours, R.C. Church, 37 Union Ave. Amityville at 11:30 am. Followed by burial at St Charles Cemetery. I
