Lynbrook Resident Marie Abramonte Bivona Dies at 79

Remembered for her sense of humor, kindness and smile.

Marie Abramonte Bivona, a Lynbrook resident and Brooklyn native died Monday in Rockville Centre. She was 79.

Bivona's friends and family remembered her sense of humor, her kindness, her willingness to listen and her smile on an online memorial page created this week. One friend from Bellmore described Bivona as a "very special woman with an amazing way of cracking jokes when things were too serious."

Another woman, Isabel Perricone, of New Jersey, said Bivona was a "beautiful loving lady [who] always had nice things to say, always with a smile."

Bivona was born on July 5, 1933 in Brooklyn. She was a beloved wife to the late James Bivona, who died on July 20, 2012, according to an obituary published in Newsday. Bivona was also a loving mother to Donna (Peter), James (Carolyn), and Christina (Kenneth) and aherished "Nonni" of Jessica, Peter James, Daniella, James, Julianna, Jake, Jack, and Bobbi. She was predeceased by her parents Rose and Salvatore, and her sister Vincenza.

Visitation and funeral services were held for Bivona on Wednesday at Flinch and Bruns Funeral Home in Lynbrook. Memorial contributions may be made in her honor to the Lustgarten Foundation.
